The Olga Koning Fund

The fund gives financial support to students studying astronomy in Utrecht University, particularly to help them attend international conferences or summer schools abroad and for international collaborations during their research project.

The fund was started in 1994 following a bequest in the will of Olga Koning. The money was later put into a foundation (Stichting). The fund is managed by a board. The present members of the board are:

Professor Christoph Keller, Chairman,
Professor Tony Hearn, Secretary and treasurer
Dr. Søren Larsen
Professor Wil de Ruijter

Applications for money should be sent by email to Tony Hearn: A.G.Hearn at uu.nl with a copy to Christoph Keller: C.U.Keller at uu.nl.

International conferences and summer schools require early registration.
The application should include a short description of the purpose of the travel and how it relates to the applicants study or research. A reasonably detailed and economical budget of the expected total costs is required. Since the Olga Koning Fund is a small fund, applicants are requested to apply for additional funding elsewhere.

Sources of money can be:
- The Beta Faculty
- The research project of your supervisor
- The Kapteyn fund in Groningen.
If, at the time of the application to the Olga Koning Fund, the outcome of the requests from these other funds is not yet known, a guarantee can be requested from the Olga Koning Fund.

If the Olga Koning Fund decides to grant a subsidy or a guarantee, an advance or part of the subsidy is usually possible if requested.

The final payment of the subsidy will be made after a detailed budget of expenses incurred is made after the applicant's return, but no later than 1 month after the end of the travel. This should be sent by email to Tony Hearn. If it is necessary to send information by letter, this should be addressed to him at
