The Science Faculty consists of five departments: Biology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Information and Computing Sciences, Physics and Astronomy, Chemistry and Mathematics. The Faculty is home to 3500 students and nearly 2000 staff and is internationally renowned for the quality of its research. The Faculty's academic programmes reflect developments in today's society.

Minnaert Chair
A three months position every year for a highly renowned astrophysicist with affiliation to our Institute. Included in this position is a teaching job and an evening lecture in the Academy building for a general public.
This chair was founded in 1993, the year of the 100st birthday of Prof. Marcel Minnaert and the year of the SIUs 350th anniversary.

Utrecht University was founded in 1636 and is the largest university in the
Netherlands. Several Nobel prize winners studied or worked here,
the most recent Nobel prize winners being Gerard 't Hooft and Martinus Veltman
(Nobel prize in Physics 1999).
The astronomy department has a long tradition,
having been founded in 1643. It has 9 full-time faculty members, 6 postdocs and about 23 PhD students.
Utrecht itself is a lively, medium large city with a
historical center, situated in the center of the Netherlands.
Salaries will be according to the standard Dutch university scale
and can be found on the web. Collective Labour Agreement (CAO).
